Today, November 2nd, is National Stress Awareness Day 2022.
Founded by Carole Spiers, the Chairperson of the International Stress Management Association (ISMA), National Stress Awareness Day takes places on the first Wednesday in November and aims to increase public awareness of stress and help people recognise, manage and reduce stress in their personal and professional lives.
Stress Awareness in the Workplace
There are plenty of factors which contribute to feeling more stressed. These include financial difficulties, relationship breakdowns, illnesses or poor health, and problems within the workplace.
Bupa GP Melanie Hill says:
“Work-related stress is when the pressures of work become more than you can cope with. It can make you feel ill both physically and mentally. Recognising the signs of work-related stress and dealing with it quickly can mean it will have less negative impact.”
Work-related stress can affect both physical and mental health and symptoms could include:
- Finding it harder to concentrate
- Losing confidence in yourself and job
- Feeling anxious and depressed
- Feeling more emotional
- Being more irritable and losing your temper more quickly
